Anti Ragging

1. Overview

Government Polytechnic College, Hardoi, Aligarh maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards ragging. Ragging is strictly prohibited within the college premises, hostels, and any associated environments. The institution follows the UGC and AICTE anti-ragging guidelines to ensure the safety, dignity, and well-being of students.

2. Definition of Ragging

Ragging includes any act that involves harassment, intimidation, humiliation, or abuse (physical or mental) directed at a new or existing student. This includes:

  • Verbal abuse, name-calling, or bullying.
  • Physical assault or forcing students into objectionable activities.
  • Psychological intimidation or creating an atmosphere of fear.
  • Forcing students to perform demeaning tasks against their will.

3. Anti-Ragging Committee & Squad

To ensure a safe learning environment, the college has constituted the following bodies:

  • Anti-Ragging Committee – Comprising senior faculty members, hostel wardens, student representatives, and administrative staff.
  • Anti-Ragging Squad – A task force that actively monitors the campus and responds to complaints immediately.

4. Preventive Measures

  • Strict Monitoring: Surveillance across campus, hostels, and common areas.
  • Awareness Programs: Orientation sessions for students to educate them on anti-ragging laws and consequences.
  • Mentorship & Counseling: Senior students and faculty mentors assigned to guide and support new students.
  • Helpline & Complaint Mechanism: Dedicated contact numbers and email for students to report incidents confidentially.

5. Reporting & Disciplinary Action

  • Students experiencing or witnessing ragging can report it to the Anti-Ragging Committee through:
  • Immediate action will be taken based on the severity of the complaint.
  • Disciplinary actions include:
    • Warning & Counseling for minor infractions.
    • Suspension or Rustication for serious offenses.
    • Legal Action under IPC & UGC guidelines for extreme cases.

6. Legal Framework & Penalties

As per UGC and AICTE anti-ragging regulations, the following legal provisions apply:

  • Expulsion and Suspension for severe cases.
  • FIR Lodging & Criminal Prosecution for extreme offenses.
  • Disqualification from Scholarships, Placements, and Admission to Other Institutions.

7. Student Responsibilities

  • Every student must sign an Anti-Ragging Affidavit at the time of admission.
  • Students must report any form of ragging they witness.
  • Maintaining a harmonious and respectful environment for peers.

8. Support & Counseling Services

The college provides professional counseling services for students affected by ragging. Psychological and emotional support is available to help students cope with any distressing experiences.
